We live in a world plagued by a lot of negativity and insecurities that it’s so easy to let it affect us. One thing that has always helped my mind and body stay healthy has been dance. It has been there for me in the worst of times and even in the best of times. It’s an escape zone where it allows me to express feelings and release emotions that are sometimes hard to express vocally. SPACE has been a contributor by putting on events that helped build so much positivity and self confidence in my life. Most importantly SPACE has put on events that also project positivity in the community.
Dance has been part of my life for 16 years and has made me the person I am today. At a young age it helped me build confidence and allowed me to express myself in ways I could never imagine. At parties I was always the kid in the corner afraid to dance, because I didn't know how and was too afraid of what people thought. I realized I was missing out on one of the best ways of self-expression and joys of the world. After a few years of actually putting myself out there and seeing the happiness that dance brought in my life, I started to enroll in dance classes. Ballet Folklorico was one of the best classes that really helped boost my dance passion. I went from being the one in the corner afraid to show any kind of dance expression, to performing dances in front of hundreds of people. Ballet Folklorico was a huge part of my life for about four years until I decided to branch out in the Zumba world. The change from being afraid at a young age to express myself, to now several years later leading fitness dance classes was huge. Best of all is now I’m able to share my love for dance and bring out smiles in people. Dance has opened many doors for me as I got older, not only in teaching Zumba and Latin partner dancing, but in my daily life. This is why I love what the SPACE program brings to our community. It can change someone’s life for the better through art, music and dance. It can change the person’s life that is afraid to leave the corner of the room afraid to express themselves and turn their life around, not only artistically but in life as well.
